Dr. Scot Trefz
Hi, I’m Dr. Scot Trefz. I am the Veterinarian/Medical Director and sole owner of Bay Moorings Animal Hospital that I purchased on May 6, 2013. I look forward to meeting you and your furry children very soon! I am committed to providing the very best veterinary care at affordable prices for your four legged family members in a compassionate, warm and family oriented environment while exceeding clients’ expectations of customer service; just as I and my team have done in Northern Pinellas for over 24 years at Gulf Bay Animal Hospital in Clearwater, a practice I recently sold to return to St. Pete.
I was born in Lakeland and my family moved to St. Petersburg where I grew up. I graduated from Canterbury High School where my name is proudly the first to be adorned on Canterbury’s gymnasium wall recognizing past top scholar athletes. I then went directly to UF for my undergraduate study where I was accepted early into UF’s College of Veterinary Medicine. In recognition ranking in the top 5% of my veterinary class, I was admitted as a junior into the College of Veterinary Medicine’s Honor Society, Phi Zeta, in 1984. I was bestowed the surgical excellence award for my senior veterinary class and graduated with honors on June 1, 1985.
I had the privilege and honor to have had the late Dr. Bill Goldston as a mentor. Dr. Goldston hired me as a teenager to assist at his veterinary clinic. He is the reason I am a veterinarian today. I owe quite a lot to Bill.
I recently relocated to Tierra Verde with my fiancée’, Karen who helps on the admin and marketing side of our clinic, and our 2 cats, Chappy and Munchkin. Over the last few years, we lost our 3 canine sons, an American Bull, a Doberman and a Lab, all to old age. A puppy may be in our near future!
Dr. Jennifer DeStefano
Hi, I'm Dr. Jennifer DeStefano and I graduated from the University of Florida in 1998. Since that time I have worked in Pinellas County and have immensely enjoyed taking care of many family pets from puppy/kittenhood until their older days.
I enjoy bonding with my clients and patients, and I am very excited to be with the team here at Bay Moorings Animal Hospital! I enjoy wellness care and preventative medicine and am dedicated to helping my clients do all they can to prevent problems and keep their furry family members as healthy as possible.
On a personal front, I am the proud mother of 12 year old boy-girl twins and a 5 year old daughter. My 3 kiddos keep me so busy that currently we do not have a pet, but we are in the process of looking for a special dog to adopt - and my kids are very excited!
I also love finding new fun places to eat out and live here in St. Pete - I think it's a great little city! My kids and I also love going to the beach and shopping (well, the girls do!). They also enjoy spending time with my folks, their grandparents who live on Tierra Verde! I look forward to meeting the clientele of BMAH and again, am thrilled to be a part of Dr. Trefz's team!
Dr. Austin Plummer
Hello, I’m Dr. Austin Plummer. I was born and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida where I attended St. Petersburg Catholic High School. I received my Bachelors of Science degree in Biology from the University of Central Florida where I graduated in 2012. I am a new graduate from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine where I graduated at the top of my class and am very excited to begin practice in my hometown!
Veterinary Assistant/Office Manager
Hello, my name is Brenda and I have been a veterinary technician for over 20 years. I began my career in Orlando and moved to Clearwater in 1989. I’ve worked at several animal hospitals in the area and joined Dr. Trefz’s team in 2005 at his former practice, Gulf Bay Animal Hospital. I enjoy working with small animals and helping to educate owners about the care of their pets. Over the years, I have learned a great deal from Dr. Trefz.
In my spare time, you can most often find me at the beach with my family and my Chocolate Lab, Clementine. Clementine also gets to go to the dog park, and you may see her at the clinic being a blood donor when we need her to help other sick pets. My house has a variety of other animals who call it home, too: 4 snakes, 1 bearded dragon, 1 African Grey parrot, a turtle, frogs, and tarantulas (even though I hate other spiders). My two lovely children, Troy (12) and Jessica (17) help me take care of them.
I look forward to meeting all of our clientele and being a big part of your pets health! I reside in Clearwater and am a native of Altamonte Springs.
My name is Kayla, and I’m a veterinary technician here at Bay Moorings Animal Hospital. I was born and raised in Daytona Beach, Florida and came to St. Petersburg to attend college at USF at their St. Pete Campus.
I love the St. Petersburg community and enjoy being outside whenever possible. I enjoy fishing, biking, and snuggling with my two cats at home as you can see my selfie with one of my feline children! I also enjoy volunteering at the Marine Mammal Pathobiology Lab where I get to work hands on with manatees and dolphins.
I orginally began my professional field as an arborist, but ultimately decided to change course to pursue my passion, which was a career in the veterinary medicine field. I love helping animals of all kinds, and this job proves to be very rewarding every single day. I love working with Dr. Trefz, Dr. Plummer and Dr. DeStefano along with all of my other coworkers here at Bay Moorings Animal Hospital. I love to be continuously learning and advancing in the veterinary technician field, and I look forward to meeting you and your pet(s) in the near future!
Hi, I'm Gwen and I recently joined BMAH as a Veterinary Assistant. I grew up in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, which is on the eastern part of the state. I attended college in Massachusetts and came to Florida in 1988 where I started my career at Southeastern Guide Dogs. I became a certified guide dog trainer/instructor and head of the breeding program and the medical program for the adult dogs in training.
In 2009 I shifted my career to work in the veterinary field and began working at a veterinary hospital in Manatee County. After crossing the Skyway bridge for 5 years, today I am enjoying work at Bay Moorings Animal Hospital as a veterinary assistant.
I share my home in St. Petersburg with three Labradors, a Hungarian Vizsla and a cat that figured out how to use the doggie door and rules the roost!
Hi, my name is Brittany and I am a Veterinary Technician here at Bay Moorings Animal Hospital. I am a 2012 graduate of the University of Florida with a Masters degree is Equine Reproductive Physiology, a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science with a focus in Equine Industry and minors in Agribusiness Sales and Marketing and Agricultural & Extension Education.
I was born and raised in Largo, Florida and recently bought my own home here with my husband, Ryan. We live with our menagerie: Riley and Buddy, our Pit Bulls, Dutchess and Oliver, our horses, Pumpkin and Lilly, the barn cats, Butters the hampster, and last but not least, Thunder the fish!
In my spare time, you can find me at the gym power lifting, riding my two horses, long boarding through the park, traveling on my Harley or just reading a good book. I look forward to meeting all of you and your furry family members!
Hi, I'm Stephanie and I am delighted to have just joined Bay Moorings Animal Hospital as a Veterinary Technician!
I am a graduate of the University of Florida and I am a certified Veterinary Technician. I followed my childhood dream of working in the veterinary medicine field because I have loved all animals from all walks of life - including this magnificent female giraffe who let me take a selfie with her! I think she sensed my love for animals!
In my spare time, I enjoy anything outdoors as well as anything connected to fitness and the arts. I am a native of the Tampa Bay area and am delighted to be with working with Dr. Trefz and his team at Bay Moorings Animal Hospital. I look forward to seeing you and your pets on your next visit!
Hi, my name is Karen and I handle the Administrative, Finance, Marketing, and PR/Community communication functions for Dr. Trefz and the team at Bay Moorings Animal Hospital. When not at the front desk or in my accounting office, you’re most likely to find me in the kennel or sick ward brushing and playing with our visiting patients and boarders while they are away from their families and homes.
I held controller positions in the construction and manufacturing industries and spent the last 15 years in the software technology field prior to joining Bay Moorings upon Dr. Trefz’s purchase of the clinic.
I reside in Tierra Verde with Dr. Trefz who is also my fiancee’, and our 2 cats Chappy, a medium hair Orange boy and Munchkin, a beautiful male Ragdoll. I relocated to Clearwater, Florida in 1977 from my hometown of Dayton, Ohio. I believe that makes me a semi-native!
Hi, I'm Carol, and I am fairly new to Bay Moorings Animal Hospital, but not new to being on Dr.Trefz's veterinary team. Actually, I guess I could say I'm an original since I have worked with him since he graduated from vet school. I was working part time at a vet clinic in Largo when he came to work there as a new and very enthusiastic young veterinarian. After he purchased Gulf Bay Animal Hospital in Clearwater, I did relief work for his new clinic and in 1998, I agreed to fill in for a technician who was going on maternity leave for 2 months. Those 2 months turned into over 20 years working full time for him until I retired in 2008. After a few years, I discovered that retirement was not all it was cracked up to be! As Bay Moorings Animal Hospital has grown, I am thrilled to be back with Dr.Trefz part time. (I often refer to him as my "brother" since I have known him for so long!).
I have a degree in education and taught kindergarten in my younger days. Over the course of many years, I have raised 4 children and a multitude of cats! Every stray cat that entered my world at Dr. Trefz's previous clinic, well, I always made room for them at my home. I'm now down to two senior cats, Baby, 14 and Sienna, 17. I also enjoy 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren! In my spare time, you will find me at the gym, on a golf course or home reading or working on a variety of puzzles, from crossword to jigsaw! Sometimes, my son Fred flies into town and I spend the day with him!
My name is Mandy and I am originally from the beautiful but very cold state of Minnesota, moving to St. Petersburg in 2016 for warmer weather and the beaches. Growing up on a farm, animals have always been a part of my life. In 2011, after many years in retail, office management and being a massage therapist, I became a Certified Veterinary Technician. I started working with the University of Minnesota in emergency and critical care, then moving on to work with our local veterinarian in the small animal clinic to be closer to home and family.
In my free time you can find me running, biking, kayaking, socializing, out of our motorcycle, or spending time with my partner, Bryan and our Australian Cattle Dog (blue heeler), Maverick. I am also on a board for a non-profit that raises money and gives to women to help with their healthcare costs.
I look forward to greeting all of you as you come into the clinic to take care of your beloved pets!

Hi, my name is Melissa and I am the front desk manager and a technician assistant furthering my training in the veterinary field. After a 16 year career with Publix, I followed my heart and pursued a career in the veterinary field and joined Dr. Trefz’s former practice in 2007. I was born with a love for animals that brought me into this profession to begin with and keeps me always anxious to get to work to see what the new day brings!
On my days off, I’m usually curled up reading a novel, working in my garden or relaxing at the beach with my soon to be husband, Dave.
I have 3 human teen age children, Alison, Jeremy and Matthew. I moved to Florida from my hometown of Bridgeport, Connecticut when I was 8 years old and reside in Largo.

I am an avid New York Giants fan and in my spare time you'll usually find me enjoying my work outs at the gym, playing darts and otherwise enjoying anything the Florida outdoors has to offer.

Hi, my name is Bonnie and I am the groomer at Bay Moorings Animal Hospital. I also assist in the kennel when needed. At a young age, I developed a passion for animals and that blossomed into a professional career path. I now enjoy my days grooming your pets and have been at Bay Moorings for over 6 years. I love to get to know each pet, especially the mature ones who need additional “TLC”. You can count on me to always take the time with you and your pet to ensure your pet’s groom is to your specific desires.
My leisure time is usually spent boating or at the beach. I've lived on St. Pete Beach since relocating from my native New York in the late 1970′s.
Hi, I'm Patti and you will find me providing exceptional grooming services on Thursdays at BMAH. I previously worked at Dr. Trefz's animal hospital in Clearwater for several years and am pleased to be part of his team again.
I enjoy working with your furry children to make sure they leave the clinic looking their best to be shown off to friends, family and neighbors! I also do show cuts.
I'm a proud mother of two beautiful daughters, "Glammy" to my adorable grandchildren and reside in Clearwater with my fiance', Pat, our Australian Shepherd puppy, Tallulah, a Morkie, London and our senior Dachshund, Bitty.
I enjoy being semi-retired to spend time with my family and friends at the beach. I am a native of Muskegon, Michigan and came to Florida a long time ago for the beaches!
Hi, my name is Lisa and I am a groomer at Bay Moorings Animal Hospital. I am fortunate to have been selected to join the clinic grooming staff when Bonnie needed to go to part-time and ultimately retire from her decade plus of grooming at Bay Moorings.
A little on my background is first, I'm a 1999 USF graduate with a BS in Criminology. I then entered and graduated from SPC with a BS in Exceptional Student Education.
With my real passion being for our 4-legged family members, I entered and completed grooming training at the Academy of Animal Arts in Largo in 2000. You and your furry babies will find comfort in knowing my training was from one of the very best in the business who not only groomed but also bred and showed dogs winning both American and International competitions.
I have been grooming for 18 years in Ohio and Florida and live close to the clinic in St. Pete with my English Golden Retriever, Oliver, my princess Shih Tzu, Annie, and Loki, my seal mitted Ragdoll feline!
